South Korea’s expanded espionage law took effect on Sunday, broadening criminal offences beyond acts benefiting North Korea as Seoul seeks stronger protections against leaks of semiconductor and other strategic technologies.
南韓擴大適用範圍的間諜法於週日正式生效。隨著首爾當局尋求加強保護半導體及其他戰略技術免於外洩，該法將刑事犯罪的適用範圍進一步擴大，不再侷限於僅對北韓有利的行為。

The revised Criminal Act creates an offence covering espionage conducted for any foreign country or equivalent organisation, carrying a minimum prison sentence of three years. Existing provisions covering espionage benefiting an "enemy state" remain in force.
修正後的「刑法」創設一項涵蓋為任何外國或等同組織進行間諜活動的罪行，最輕可處3年入監。現行針對有利於「敵國」之間諜活動的條文，則維持有效。
South Korea’s National Assembly passed the amendment on February 26 after criticism that existing legislation made it difficult to prosecute industrial and technology espionage involving countries other than North Korea.
南韓國會2月26日通過上述項修正案，先前有批評指出，現行法律讓涉及北韓以外國家的工業和技術間諜活動，難以進行起訴。
broaden：動詞，擴大、變寬。例句：The city government are broadening the bridge to speed up the flow of traffic.（市政府正在拓寬大橋，以提高交通流量。）
equivalent：形容詞，相等的，等同的。例句：Teresa’s monthly salary is equivalent to what some people earn in a whole year.（泰瑞莎的月薪相當於其他人一整年的薪資。）
